Captain Planet Movie

Captain Planet movieCartoon Network and Producer Don Murphy (Transformers Dark of the Moon) are teaming up to develop a live-action Captain Planet movie. Yep, the environment-saving animated hero is going to make it to the big screen, and a producer of transformers will oversee the whole thing, how awesome! There's no official release date, but the film is listed for a release in 2014 by IMDb.

For those who don't remember Captain Planet, here's a refresher:

In an effort to inform younger viewers about serious environmental issues, legendary cable entrepreneur Ted Turner partnered with DIC Enterprises in 1990 to create the world's first animated environmental series, Captain Planet and the Planeteers. The series was about a group of young people who combine their special powers (The Planeteers) to summon Captain Planet, an environmental superhero, to battle the world's worst eco-villains.

Here's the opening of the original Captain Planet animated TV series:

A few words from Stuart Snyder from Cartoon Network:

"The messages of Captain Planet are even more relevant today. We feel this team can bring the world’s first eco-hero to life in a powerful motion picture that is not only pertinent but entertaining."
Stuart Snyder

Kids aren't as naive as they used to be. They need to revamp Captain Planet if they want to reach a large public and need to come up with a solid script. If they do it right, this could not only be a real blockbuster but also contributes to spur public awareness about environmental issues.

Anyway, more information about the Captain Planet movie as soon as details emerge.
